Judith Hemschmeyer: Winner of the Violet Reed Haas Prize for Poetry

Judith Hemschmeyer is a vivi, resonant, and smart woman. She writes tough, human poems, stinging with love and hurt, full of America today and of history as it is and has been, in a voice of dry, wry, direct experience. One poem after another in Certain Animals hits the bull's eye of feeling, and makes me tremble with it.
